The Jungle Lodge Hotel was established in 1956 by Mr. Antonio Ortiz Contreras, who discovered the Temple of the Inscriptions in 1951. Just a 10 minute walk from the ceremonial center of Tikal, in the midst of the luscious humid tropical forest of Petén, the lodge started as base for the logistics of the Tikal Project, and room and board for the archeologists. The Jungle Lodge Hotel has been under constant renovation in order to adjust to the modern standards of comfort and hospitality. The hotel’s gardens offer the tourists a spectacular environment with its varied flora and fauna.
